Alexander Wojie Wojciechowicz (1915-1992): A Life Remembered

Alexander “Wojie” Wojciechowicz (1915-1992) was a standout football player, both in college and in the professional ranks. He was a two-time All-American at Fordham University, showcasing his exceptional talent and athleticism on the gridiron. He was also part of the legendary “Seven Blocks of Granite” offensive line, a formidable unit that helped pave the way for Fordham’s success.

The “Seven Blocks of Granite” was a nickname given to the starting offensive line of the Fordham Rams football team in the 1930s. This group, known for its size, strength, and tenacity, was a key factor in Fordham’s dominant run in college football during that era. The line included, in addition to Wojciechowicz: Alex “Sandy” Krol, Vince Lombardi, George “Ace” Balasz, “Tiny” Thompson, and “Duke” Slater. The team won three national championships (1935, 1936, and 1937) and was known for its power running game. Their impressive dominance made them a force to be reckoned with in the college football world, with their name synonymous with offensive power and effectiveness.
